Mr. Meaty started as a chain of shorts that played between longer methods on Nickelodeon from 2002 to 2005. They had been additionally featured on CBC's variety display The Void, on Nickelodeon's iTunes listings, and on the TurboNick web page. Common Sense Media gave the series a rating of 3/5, stating that the humor was aimed toward older kids and noting that some audience "will enjoy the idiosyncratic characters and their attempts to survive the uncertainties of puberty."[1] Susan Stewart of The New York Times gave the display a positive evaluation, calling its puppetry "a perfect medium for sending up the foibles of the teenage years" and commending the 2 major characters' "deft characterizations".[7]

In May 2007, the display ranked because the fourth highest-rated Saturday morning program among youngsters aged 2―11.[8]
