When Alec and I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last January, they had all the house robes, but they were over-priced and cheaply made. Instead I picked up an official Hogwarts crest patch so I could make my own custom robe. I created the robe pattern by expanding a tent sloper to full length and adding bishop style sleeves and a hood. This officially licensed Harry Potter costume sewing pattern includes measurements, sizing guidelines, and easy to follow instructions to create Hogwarts robes, sweaters, and ties that can be customized to represent the Hogwarts house of your choice. Harry Potter Robe Pattern Free DIY Tutorial:
Step 1 – Cut out the Hogwart's Robe
Assemble the trend you'll in finding detailed directions here.
For speed's sake I've designed the development so one piece doubles because the front and the again. Essentially you'll lower out the again and then cut down the trend so you'll reduce out the entrance.
On folded cloth, Place the back on the fold and cut out 1.
When you unfold the back it must be one huge piece.
Next it's time to cut out the Hood: here you'll see the way it must be placed at the material relating to the robe again to get probably the most out of your material.
Get the wizard hood and on folded cloth lower 2.
You'll understand on the Harry Potter Wizard robe trend piece that there is a purple line.
Cut down the trend to the purple line to make out the shape of the entrance.
Place trend on folded cloth and reduce 2. Notice that this trend piece DOES NOT sit down on the fold, Be certain to mark the notches.
so you will have TWO separate development items if you find yourself completed.
For the sleeves of the Harry Potter Robe Pattern, with the remaining material modify the fold so it's NOT within the middle of the fabric.
Make it broad sufficient to chop out a sleeve, minimize one and alter the fold again to cut out the other sleeve.
Here's a visual reference of learn how to reduce out all of the items from the material:
For the home color lining reduce out the following:
Cut two of the sleeve lining at the fold.
Cut two of the wizard cloak lining.
and minimize two of the wizard cloak hood lining. Note: to get probably the most from your fabric, you'll turn the development piece so the broadcast facet is face down on the cloth. Make positive you include the notches for reference later.
Here's a visual reference of the right way to minimize out all of the pieces of the Harry Potter Robe Pattern lining:
Step 2 – Begin to Sew the Robe
All seam allowances are .5 inch unless in a different way said. Let's start with the outside of the robe.
Take the again and the gown and the 2 front items. Pin proper facets in combination
Sew the shoulder seams.
Next take the sleeves and pin to every aspect, proper aspects together.
Sew the sleeves to robe.
Right sides together, Pin the side seams of the gown all the to the ends of the sleeves.
Sew the perimeters. Set the robe aside
Step 3 – Begin to stitch the Wizard Robe's hood
With proper sides together, sew the top of the hood exterior.
Then following the crimson line on the development as a information sew to the notch at the base of the neck.
Repeat this process with the hood lining in the home colour. Trim notches in to curves so it is going to lay nicely.
Turn the hoods so fronts ( the long immediately edge) are dealing with each and every other and pin right sides in combination.
Sew together.
Turn right aspect out.
Stuff the liner into the hooded robe external.
Line up the notches and
Pin the hood to the robe neck, proper facets of the outside touching.
Sew to the robe. Set the gown apart.
Step 4 – Prep the liner
To create that flash of space color throughout the robe, we want to prep and insert the liner to it. There are a couple of tactics to do it.
You need to finish the raw fringe of the lining, ( that is the facet of the lining that comes to some extent at the most sensible). You can either turn it under a quarter of and inch, press and then zig zag stitch along the threshold in a thread that's the same color to finish the brink. Or you can use a turning foot to turn that raw edge below and finish it ( that is how I did it). Note: Make positive that they're mirror photographs and also you don't end them on the same side.
Once that edge is finished you'll attach it to the Hogwart's robe. Line up the top of the liner to the hood/ neck line proper sides in combination.
Pin the lining and sew onto the wizard's robe.
Trim the seam on the attitude.
Turn the lining to the inside. repeat at the other side.
Step 5 – Add the lining to the sleeves to the Wizard Robe
Now it's time to add that flash of colour to the sleeves.
The the directly facet end the threshold such as you did the lining. Either with a became edge ( like I did or fold it below and to the improper facet and zig zag sew it down.)
Take the sleeve lining, and at the small facet pin it right aspects in combination and stitch, to make it a loop.
Add it to the sleeves. With the robe sleeve grew to become proper aspect out, pin the wizard cloak sleeve lining to the sleeve so right aspects are touching (sleeve lining seam must be facing out). Note: The seams on the sleeve and the liner DO NOT match up, the curves do. This is the cover the seams for a more gratifying look.
Pin every aspect to the sleeves right facets together. Sew on, for this seam use a .25 inch seam allowance. trim curves.
Flip The lining out.
Then tuck it into the inside.
Optional, but recommended. Top sew alongside the out fringe of the sleeve to stay the liner inside of and the glance neat. Hand tack the brink of the gown sleeve lining on the inside the sleeve with glue or a couple of stitches to stay it in place.
Step 6 – Hem the Harry Potter Robe Pattern
Again there are a couple of other strategies you'll be able to use.
You can flip the hem under an inch and stitch it alongside the brink with a zig zag stitch
or you'll use hem tape and iron up the hem,
or you can hand stitch the hem up too. It's your dress so you can end it as nicely ( or as quickly) as you desire to.
Step 7 – Finishing touches
Add the home patch to the left facet of the gown.
If desired upload a frog clasp where the entrance v comes to a point on the wizard gown.
Top stitch across the front, and the hood so the gown will lay properly.
